How Bill Credits Are Applied to Your PNM Statement

Updated this week

How are my solar bill credits calculated?
Your credits are based on how much energy your share of the solar garden produces each calendar month. This is measured in kilowatt-hours (kWh) and multiplied by your utility's rate to calculate your credit. Your rate is set by Public Service Company of New Mexico. Depending on your meter class.

How are the credits applied to my bill?

  • Your credits are automatically applied to your utility bill each month. If your credit doesn't cover your full bill, you just pay the rest.

  • If your credit is more than your bill, the leftover amount rolls over to next month. Your bill will never go below $0.

Where do I see the credits on my bill?

  • You’ll find your credits in the “Customer Programs” section under “Community Solar.”

  • Credits appear as negative amounts on your bill because they reduce what you owe.

  • Your solar credit may be broken into multiple parts (base credit, fuel credit, rider credits, and taxes), but they all add up to your total savings.

What do the credits do?
Your credits lower your overall electricity charges. You may also see related adjustments (like fuel, rider, and taxes) listed.

When will I see my credits?

PNM calculates your solar credit at the beginning of each month based on the previous month’s energy production.

Depending on your billing cycle, your credit may appear on either your current bill or the following month’s bill.

Your Subscription Payment

Your utility shows the full value of the solar credit, and your subscription cost is a discounted portion of that amount.
